Lauren E. Smith is Managing Director in the Miami office of Diversified Search, a top ten search firm in the US and the country’s largest women-owned firm. She started her career in executive search in 2000 with Egon Zehnder. She has conducted senior-level executive search assignments for companies ranging from to high-growth early-stage organizations to multinational corporations. She specializes in working with companies that are growing and/or transforming into new markets and businesses. She is valued by clients for her ability to understand an organization’s strategic direction, her skills at assessing the cultural fit of candidates and her dedication to quality and timeliness. Lauren has placed executives and or board members at clients such as Apple, Citrix, Comfort Systems, DHL, Kaplan Inc., Novell, Office Depot, Polyconcept, Ryder, Sheridan Healthcare, Tupperware and Winn-Dixie. She has recently co-led board searches for a number of Fortune 500 boards including Jacobs Engineering Corporation, Fifth Third and Navient.
Before moving into executive search, Lauren had twelve years of experience leading marketing and strategy at two Fortune 50 companies – Westinghouse Electric Corporation and Motorola Inc. During her time at Motorola, she led marketing and customer operations for a wireless joint venture in Bogotá, Colombia.
Lauren has lived and worked in Europe and Latin America and is fluent in Spanish. She has a BS from the Pennsylvania State University and a MBA from Thunderbird School of Global Management.
Lauren is a board member and Chair of the Board Development Committee of the American Red Cross South Florida Chapter. She is an Executive Committee Member, and past Chair of the Chairman’s Circle, of Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce. She also serves on the boards of the National Association of Corporate Directors Florida Chapter, and H. Wayne Huizenga School of Business & Entrepreneurship of Nova Southeastern University. She is an Advisory Board member for Florida’s ION member, Women Executive Leadership where she spearheaded the first census that tallied the number of women on the boards of Florida’s top 150 public companies. She is a member of Women Corporate Directors and has also served on the Cabinet of the Miami-Dade United Way.
Lauren has been quoted as an expert on executive and board recruiting in NACD Directorship, Entrepreneur Magazine, American Way Magazine, the Miami Herald, and South Florida CEO Magazine. She has been a guest lecturer at Nova Southeastern University and a speaker for the National Association of Corporate Directors. Lauren was named by South Florida Business Journal as a Most Influential Business Woman in 2010.
